The Path To The Pink Slip

Recently several WWE superstars have fallen to severe injuries while performing in the ring. These injuries aren’t just your average tweaked hammy or sprained ankle, these injuries are as serious and career threatening as any.
In the past, WWE has shown that unless you’re Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Triple H or Shawn Michaels, the patience for a serious injury is almost non-existent. Just ask Andrew “Test” Martin, he’ll tell you. Better yet ask Rodney Mack, Scott Steiner and others who have been dealt the crushing blow of being shit canned when their health couldn’t stay on track. Even Kurt Angle opted for the quick fix version of his neck surgery so he wouldn’t miss a drastic amount of ring time, because he knew somewhere in the back of his head that he couldn’t rely on not being able to work.
Now this brings me to the new generation of the surgically repaired. First and foremost, Lita.
Lita fought back after 14 months on the shelf due to her neck fusion just to finally hit her groove, win the women’s championship and blow it by botching a Thesz press outside the ring. What does the future now hold for Lita? Major reconstruction of her knee! I honestly don’t believe that Vince will hold his breath for another 8 months for Lita to get back in ring shape, when her shelf life is almost over as it is. Besides, at the rate Vince is going, he would rather have the bad acting, horrible interview skill, t-shirt cannon shooting, Raw diva contest rejects on his show rather than women who can actually paste a sub par match together. So as far as I see it, this may be Lita’s last ride.
My next example is the lovable Eugene a.k.a. Nick Dinsmore. Nick blew his patella out while attempting a drop kick at NYR. While the Eugene character is over with the many fans. Nick had basically been type cast with the Eugene gimmick and his hopes for a serious push are dead at best. Seeing as he was one half of the tag champs on Raw, the belts will more than likely be vacated. As far as Eugene, this could be a blessing in disguise for Dinsmore. If he sits on the shelf long enough, there is still a shot that he could be repackaged and brought back, however, the odds of that aren’t that good.
Finally there is Rob Van Dam. RVD has been in the WWE doghouse for almost 2 full years now. His open opinions on the company and product during his interviews have been less than flattering to WWE officials. Even the tremendous pops that RVD gets heading to the ring have fallen on deaf ears. Keep in mind Rob’s “careless” ring work has drawn criticism as well. So the signs all point to the fact that unless RVD can be 100% and perform when and where Vince says; his days in the Titan Towers appear to be numbered as well.
