Press Release
Posted by: Honky Tonk Man on 04/05/2005

This month, bodyslams and flying dropkicks are the medicine that a band of pro wrestlers hope will help in the fight against cancer. MainStream Wrestling, a professional wrestling operation based in the Maritimes, will hit the road this April for a full weeks’ worth of exciting action on their fifth annual Spring tour. This year, the stars of MSW plan to start things off in a BIG way as they present "Dropkick On Cancer", a 7-day expedition designed to promote the importance of finding a cure for cancer, one of the deadliest diseases known to the human race. All profits from the tour will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society. Promoter Devin Chittick welcomes the effort he has undertaken.

"It’s really gratifying for me to be able to do something like this for such a worthy cause," he says. "It’s a chance for all of us to do something noble and get our name out there at the same time. There’s a tremendous amount of work involved but I’m really excited about doing it."

While slugging it out for a good cause, Chittick is also hopeful that an effort like this will attract new fans for his organization. Wrestling aficionados - old and new - will certainly get their fill of slamming action as the tour will be headlined by legendary wrestling star, The Honky Tonk Man. Formerly of WWE fame, Honky Tonk will enjoy his second trip to the province to appear for MainStream since last February when that tour was cut short due to White Juan, the history-making snowstorm that overwhelmed the region. This time around though, he’s preparing to stay for the tour’s duration as he leads a stable of about a dozen wrestlers into battle, some joining in from Newfoundland, British Columbia, and right here in Nova Scotia.

"With a roster of this caliber that includes veterans such as Honky Tonk and Vance Nevada, combined with the talents of younger guys like MSW Champion Marco Estrada, Lance Romance, and Outcast, it’s a great way to show the fans all across the province that MSW is re-emerging with a vengeance this year", says Chittick, who not only promotes the events but performs in the ring himself under the guise of "X-Ray" Kyle Kruze, a loud-mouthed, long-haired former 2-time recipient of the Atlantic Canadian Championship.

The first tour of the new year will also provide some exposure and experience for the young up-and-comers fresh out of the group’s "Mat Mechanics Training Camp", a wrestling school run by Chittick and his trainer, Peter Faircloth. Faircloth competed on the Maritime circuit many years ago and has tangled with gladiators like Bam Bam Bigelow and Kevin Sullivan in the past.

MainStream Wrestling combatants are also on a mission to deliver another positive message, one aimed at discouraging teens from drug use and violence. Vance Nevada, a gifted grappler and wrestling historian of 10 years originally from Winnipeg, will visit schools along the road to discuss these dangers while stressing the importance of staying in school and achieving goals.
